Eco-leather (also known as ecological leather, ecocuoio, cuoioecologico, pelle a ridotto impatto ambientale, ecoleather) is a particular type of leather or hide with reduced environmental impact that meets the requirements of the UNI 11427:2011 standard. Eco-leather should not be confused with imitation leather (also known as faux leather), which, unlike the former, has no component of animal origin. Within the Ecopelle production cycle, the use of chemicals is reduced and limited throughout the tanning and disposal process. Eco-leather is tanned strictly following the protocol imposed by the UNI standard, and unlike leather, which is tanned according to other standards that do not limit the use of chemicals throughout the tanning process, it is much more valuable and natural.
