Copper is the metal that mankind has been using for the longest time: objects made of this metal have been found dating back to 8,700 B.C. Copper is a pinkish or reddish metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity, surpassed only by silver. It is very resistant to corrosion, thanks to a thin layer of oxidation, first brown and then green or greenish-blue, that forms on its surface, and is not magnetic. Copper is a metal that lends itself to easy workability, and is extremely ductile and malleable, perfect for armoured door coverings. It is easily recyclable, and its scrap has a high recovery value. It combines well with other materials, in fact more than 400 metal alloys are known to contain copper.
